ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) — The Ohio Department of Commerce is awarding grants to expand financial literacy education across the state.
The department announced more than $53,000 in grant funding for organizations across Ohio. Among the recipients is the St. Marys Community Public Library, which received $6,400 to launch a new Financial Empowerment Hub.
The program will provide children, teens and adults with resources on budgeting, saving, credit and financial planning. Library officials say they will partner with local banks to offer hands-on activities, take-home materials and educational classes for all ages.
"At different levels you need to be learning different parts of it. Finance is a part of every stage of our life. We cannot get away from needing money. Everything costs something. So it's important to understand where money comes from and what you're going to do with it," said Angela Karen, technology coordinator at the library.
Library leaders hope to have the Financial Empowerment Hub up and running by the end of the year. More information and updates on upcoming programs will be available on the library's website.
