LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Students at Liberty Arts Magnet were learning what it would be like to be a professional dancer.
Members of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company had four workshops with 5th, 7th, and 8th graders. They worked with them on a portion of an actual dance they would perform in the company and, what it's like to be on stage and also how to be a kind audience. The students enjoyed the chance to let loose.
"Well, freestyle to me is like, instead of always being bounded together you can like be free and let your body be itself," commented Jovanni Young, a 5th grader who enjoyed freestyle dancing.
"You can take whatever you learn in dance class, whether it's strength, a little endurance, a little bit of a mindset, like mind training, you can take that outside of the studio and apply it to so much more in life," said Robert Pulido, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company.
Pulido says he also enjoys watching the kids when they have that "Light bulb" moment when they get it and understand what they are doing.
