Sara Sweets has been busy baking King Cupcakes, a smaller version of the traditional King Cake of Mardi Gras. The King Cake is a cross between a coffee cake and a cinnamon roll and Sara’s kept with that style in the cupcakes. The King Cake also has a special surprise inside that many of the cupcakes also have.

Sara Anderson Owner of Sara’s Sweets explains, “So, we make our cinnamon roll dough and then wrap it up with cinnamon cream cheese filling and bake them in little cupcake wrappers, so they are the size of a cupcake. And then we decorate them with the Mardi Gras sugar. We do hide little plastic babies in several of them. I would say you have a 1 in 4 chance of finding a plastic baby in yours. And if you find a plastic baby you bring it back for a free item of your choice.”

Not only did Sara’s sweets have king Cake Cupcakes, they offered up Raspberry Paczki Cupcakes. Anderson says she enjoys offering up specialty items to keep things fresh.
