Bassitt does not have any corporate sponsors, so they're also fundraising to help cover the costs of competing in Paris.

You can hardly go a block in town without seeing signs celebrating Trevor Bassitt, a Bluffton native who qualified to compete in the 400-meter hurdle event at the Paris Olympics. The signs are everywhere: neighborhoods, storefronts, the local pool, and at each entrance to Bluffton from the highway.

They are the work of two local women, Lynda Best and Kathy Housh of Village Cut and Curl, who saw that residents needed a way to cheer for the Olympian and show him off to everyone passing through. Trevor's parents say he has seen the signs and appreciates everyone displaying them.

"They actually have messaged back, and they said that they're so excited. And I read a post this morning that Trevor put on, and he thanked everybody for the support. He said basically he will be going off social media during it. If anybody's going to message, they should do it through his parents or family because he said, 'I need to focus on it,' but he thanked everybody in town for all the support," Housh added.

"Any donations over and above what they pay for their signs are going to pay for the banners, and once that is done, there is a Trevor GoFundMe, so anything we have extra, we're going to put in the GoFundMe," Housh explained.

To see Bassitt compete on the global stage, you can tune in on USA Network, Peacock, or NBCOlympics.com at 4 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Monday, August 5th.
