The University of Northwestern Ohio has been approved for a new state loan.
UNOH will receive the $100,000 Ohio Means Jobs Revolving Loan Award. The loan will go towards Ohio students enrolled in diesel coursework at the university. The money will help cover costs of tuition. There are 120 Ohio students currently enrolled in the diesel program and one student can receive up to $10,000 in a calendar year. The purpose of the revolving loan program is to promote workforce development especially in a growing field like diesel automotive.
"Once they get done the employers can pay it back for them as a potential repayment plan," said Wendell Schick, financial aid director. "It's a low interest, no interest while they're in school. It's an option they can really make an investment in themselves, no co-signer needed."
Once the initial $100,000 is loaned out, more funds will be made available to continue to help students.
