LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Four Lima men were taken into custody after police uncovered a suspected dog fighting ring Wednesday night.
Officers executed a search warrant at 112 West Sixth St. in Lima, where they reportedly found clear evidence of an active dog fighting operation. According to Chief Curtis Hile, seven dogs believed to have been used in fights were rescued.
The suspects — 33-year-old Ronell Rogers, 35-year-old Jermaine Jones, 30-year-old Cameron Bailey and 29-year-old Lamontae Jackson, all from Lima — were taken into custody and later released. The case will be presented to the Allen County Grand Jury for possible charges stemming from the investigation.
“This investigation will continue, but the amount of cruelty that was going on to those animals is just completely unacceptable, and we were really happy that we were able to rescue those dogs and get people in custody for that horrible crime,” said Lima Police Chief Curtis Hile.
Police also recovered a handgun, suspected narcotics and other items believed to be tied to dog fighting. The investigation is ongoing.
