LIMA, OH (WLIO) - While the official groundbreaking is a couple of weeks away, work at the site of the new Lima Community Aquatic Park has begun.
Trees are being removed at the site just east of the football stadium to make way for the nearly 20,000-square-foot facility that will house two pools. One will be a multi-use pool with a state-of-the-art enclosure that will allow year-round swimming. The second is a zero-entry activity pool featuring a small island for summer fun. There will also be a large free-standing water slide along with a pool house with all of the amenities.
Construction will happen as the weather allows this winter with the leveling of the site as the next step and motorists should pay attention near the construction site.
"The project is not like a road project so it's kind of nice in that fashion that we don't have to manage traffic. But there's going to be a lot of contractor vehicles going in and out of the site. Again this is on the east side of the stadium so you'll see some construction fence going up. There will be a project sign," said Kirk Niemeyer, public works director for the City of Lima.
The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024. There will be a large tent with sides to help if the weather is inclement. They ask that you park on the east side of the stadium.
