September 6, 2024, Press Release from the Department of Commerce: COLUMBUS, Ohio – In recognition of National Recovery Month, RecoveryOhio and the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Divisions of Liquor Control and Cannabis Control are encouraging Ohioans who may be struggling with addiction to alcohol and controlled substances to take advantage of available resources for treatment. Started in 1989, National Recovery Month celebrates the recovery community and the importance of evidence-based treatment and recovery practices. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 6,750 Ohioans, on average, die each year from excessive drinking. In Ohio alone, approximately 20% of adults report they binge drink, which compares to 17% in nationwide.

Ohio is encouraging businesses to create a program to support current employees or potential future employees that are recovering from mental health and substance use disorders.
Allen County Public Health is reminding residents of their Project DAWN program that supplies Narcan in the event that someone overdoses. Project DAWN stands for "Deaths Avoided With Naloxone" and is a statewide program that provides agencies and community partners to distribute free Narcan to those who might need the lifesaving medicine in the event of an overdose. ACPH says that Allen County does see both fatal and non-fatal overdoses, some of which are unintentional, so their goal is to prepare the community to help combat the opioid epidemic.

August 28, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Public Safety: (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Office of Criminal Justice Services announces nearly $5.5 million in grant funding has been awarded to support efforts to reduce the impact of opioids, stimulants, and other substances on individuals and communities and to promote substance use awareness, prevention, and recovery. Funding from the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP) will provide resources supporting the development, expansion, or enhancement of substance use deflection and pre-arrest diversion programs in diverse Ohio communities that are disproportionately challenged by high fatal and nonfatal overdose rates.
