Sally Windle is in with ArtSpace/Lima to tell us what's happening there!
Sally Windle has a rundown of what's happening at ArtSpace/Lima!
Sally Windle, executive director at ArtSpace Lima, said the interns contribute in many ways.
“There’s a lot of things that we do during the summer—camps and different people coming in for tours. They’ve been able to help us with that,” Windle said. “But then they also are learning a skill. There’s a lot of things that we do here that they could do in other jobs, like patch walls, repair items. They’re learning all of that as part of their program.”
We check out what's happening in the arts - Sally Windle with ArtSpace/Lima is in!
ArtSpace/Lima is also selling local Christmas gifts that will also help to benefit their projects. ArtSpace/Lima is selling unique and one-of-a-kind artistic creations, from pottery and jewelry to various items available for purchase in the sale room. Gift cards are also available to buy. The money collected in the saleroom will go toward the building next door. That adjacent lot is currently being remodeled on the interior with the ultimate plan for a new art museum.
ArtSpace/Lima is back in the Art Bags to Go business with a thoughtful project for Thanksgiving. Cars were lining up in cherry alley to pick up a family tree project. ArtSpace thought that project went hand-in-hand with Thanksgiving.
The Lima Rotary Club learned about improvements to mental health treatment in the region. Representatives from Mercy Health-St. Rita's spoke to the club about their inpatient behavioral health facility that opened back in July. The new space allows them to take on more patients struggling with addiction and mental health and offer more outpatient programs. Hospital officials also want to change the way mental health is perceived.
It is becoming a downtown Lima tradition, and it's time to take the annual "Artwalk." ArtSpace/Lima and Downtown Lima Inc. will be hosting the 2024 Artwalk next Thursday, where local artists will be showcasing their work in local businesses. It is a combination art show and business open house to bring people into the heart of the city to explore.
Downtown Lima Inc. is inviting people to come to the town square for their final First Friday of the summer. On the night of August 2, they are saluting first responders and have a lot of activities surrounding the women and men who serve and protect the city and county every day. The First Friday events not only showcase some of the businesses in downtown Lima but have a lot of fun activities for families to enjoy.
The City of Lima's Playground Program provides children with a wide variety of activities this summer, and today and on Thursday, Artspace/Lima will go on the road to spend time with the playground program. Today the kids were creating an old day camp favorite, a "God's Eye." They used either actual sticks or popsicle sticks and weaved around them with colorful yarn. The kids caught on quickly, and Artspace/Lima says they enjoy bringing the arts to the children.
