Winter storms are posing an even greater threat to the blood supply. The winter months often see a drop in donors due to travel, seasonal illnesses and severe weather. Monday’s winter storm, for example, led to the rare closure of Versiti Blood Center of Ohio’s Dayton Community Blood Center and the cancelation of mobile blood drives.

Are you ready to roll up your sleeve and save a life? Solvita Blood Center and the Elida FFA are teaming up for another blood donor day on January 15, 2025. Blood donations seem to fall during the wintertime, and local hospitals are constantly using blood supplies for not only emergency situations but also other scheduled procedures.

September 20, 2024, Press Release from the American Red Cross: VAN WERT, Ohio (September 20, 2024) – The community is invited to help save lives by donating blood at the Day of Caring blood drive. People can donate blood on Friday, September 27 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Trinity Friends Church, 605 North Franklin Street, Van Wert, OH, 45891. The Vantage Career Center is a career-technical school for 11th and 12th grade students in four counties in northwest Ohio. During the Day of Caring, students and community members participate in a food drive sponsored by United Way of Van Wert County for local food pantries and help patients in need by donating blood during the Red Cross blood drive.

Solvita sponsored the first blood drive of the school year over at Elida High School. This is the first year Solvita has partnered with Elida's Future Farmers of America (FFA) blood drive. The drive was open to students and the public and had over 40 people registered. There were snacks and free Texas Roadhouse peanuts and rolls on hand for anyone who donated.
