The American Red Cross is calling on eligible donors to help combat a critical winter blood shortage, as severe weather and seasonal challenges continue to disrupt blood drives across the region.
Summertime is historically a low time for blood donations, but hospitals have seen a higher demand lately, which is causing a shortage during one of the peak times of the year. AAA is predicting a record number of people hitting the road for the Fourth of July holiday, and with more people traveling, donations are expected to drop even more. At the same time, with more people out and about, the chance of more emergency room visits could increase over the holiday week. Solvita is urging that people take some time to donate, especially type O and B, which are at critical lows.
A blood drive was held at Elida High School on Wednesday. The Elida Future Farmers of America (FFA) students sponsored a blood donor day with the American Red Cross.
Summer is filled with barbecues, beaches, and of course vacations, but the American Red Cross doesn't want you to take a break from donating blood.?
There is an urgent need for blood donations across the country.
