The Ohio Association of Two-Year Colleges held their annual conference at Rhodes State College, and they brought in educator and author Candy Van Buskirk to talk about the changing dynamic of education. She says that student engagement has declined, and students respond more favorably to hands-on learning. With two-year colleges helping train the next generation of the workforce, helping students get real-world experiences is key.

Allen County Public Health needs your help learning about the needs of the community. Residents 18 and older are asked to participate in a brief ten-minute survey to help the health department gather information on all aspects of health in the area and where there is room for improvement. The last day to take the survey is this Saturday, August 31st. You will not be asked to provide any personal information, like your name or address. The more people that respond, the better Allen County Public Health can tailor future plans and programs to the needs of the community.
Students that build positive connections with teachers and other kids could lead to better mental health and success in education. A new poll by the Kids Mental Health Foundation says that 50% of parents believe too much technology hinders kids from making connections in the classroom. Parents say their kids don't make good connections because the students don't believe they fit in because of race, culture, or socio-economic status. Experts have some advice.
Cenovus Energy and Activate Allen County are teaming up to start some healthy living initiatives throughout the Greater Lima Region. The Lima Refinery has made a three-year commitment to Activate Allen County through a $250,000 donation. They made the announcement at Central Lima Neighborhood Association Reading Park, which will be the site of the first project, an outdoor fitness circuit. Cenovus officials say the partnership with Activate Allen County follows their core beliefs of supporting the communities where they operate.
