ArtSpace/Lima hosted a reception for their Juried Photography Exhibition on Saturday, January 7th. While there were many fascinating works on display, eleven were chosen to receive awards.
Many of the participating artists are amateur photographers or just beginning to study the craft, but their images impressed the judges. Some of the winners say that they were surprised to win, and that their entries were spur of the moment snapshots of moments in their lives.
The Allen County Fair is no stranger to tradition year after year, and regular attendees will know that there are always fun shows and activities to take part in while they spend their time at the fair.
The monarch is native to Ohio and many other states as it makes annual migrations to Mexico but conservationists warn that habitat destruction and climate change are threatening the iconic black and orange monarch butterfly. Local naturalists say that we can help by planting more of the plant that will feed their offspring.
Right next to the All-Abilities Playground, they created a Butterfly Memorial Garden, complete with 94 acrylic butterflies. Each of the butterflies has a name on it in memory of a person that has passed away. During the dedication ceremony, some of the staff and family members talked about how the butterfly is a perfect representation of the people they lost.
Several Lima City School students are letting go of something they helped nurture, in honor of their upcoming graduation.
