Lima 6th Ward Councilman Derry Glenn is in urgent need of donations of air conditioners as a long-duration heat wave scorches the region. Glenn says he is currently out of air conditioners to install inside apartments and homes without proper means of effective cooling. The shortage of air conditioners comes as Glenn has received over 25 calls for help. And those calls extended as far as Wapakoneta, Delphos, and Cridersville during a stretch of temperatures well into the 90s. With the unrelenting heat, Glenn says the need is critical in order to protect health and prevent heat-related illnesses.
Winter is almost here, and that means hazardous snow, ice, and cold could make an appearance soon! To ensure residents are prepared, the State of Ohio has recognized this week, November 12th through the 18th, as "Winter Safety Awareness Week," a time that Allen County EMA Director, Tom Berger, wants everyone to use to make sure they are winter weather ready.
Christmas 2022 is set to be our first white Christmas since 2017. After hitting temperatures near 60° on Christmas Day 2021, this is the year Mother Nature is finally providing the snow. While our recent storm didn't produce more than a couple of inches, the development of a very strong system is providing several hazards including high winds and extreme cold.
