The Department of Community Development is spearheading a “Day of Service” to supply three local non-profits assistance in the memory of Doctor Martin Luther King Junior. There will be three bins at these locations; Lima Senior High School, Lima Central Fire Station, and Northland Chief's Supermarket that will be collecting items for the West Ohio Food Bank, Samaritan House, and Our Daily Bread soup kitchen. The community is encouraged to donate.

The Lima Police Department and the Department of Community Development partnered up Tuesday in order to reward drivers with special holiday gifts. Sergeant Aaron Rode of the Lima Police Department spent his lunch break pulling over safe drivers to hand them specially wrapped gifts in order to thank them for following the rules of the road.
Several local agencies and organizations will be able to make a difference thanks to the City of Lima and Activate Allen County. Seven $500 mini-grants have been awarded through the Department of Community Development with three getting an additional $2,000 from Activate Allen County. Projects will range from new signage to welcome packets to spaying and neutering animals.
