Students in Lima were recognized for applying Rotary’s 4-Way Test to real-world issues during the annual essay and speech contest. Winners addressed topics such as school dress codes, climate change, and youth involvement in decision-making.
Around a dozen students flexed their knowledge in the National Civics Bee, hosted by the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce. The local chamber was one of only two in Ohio to host the competition for students in sixth through eighth grade.
Local students were rewarded for their hard work thanks to D.A.R.E. 10 kids from area schools had the Westgate Entertainment Center all to themselves on Thursday afternoon thanks to their hard work on their D.A.R.E. essays.
Future leaders were recognized by the Lima Exchange Club during its annual luncheon, where 12 students from various Allen County schools were honored as "Youth of the Year."
The Lima Police Department and D.A.R.E. teamed up for the annual D.A.R.E. Essay Competition, where young students write an essay on the lessons they learned in D.A.R.E. and how to apply the D.A.R.E. decision-making model when presented with a decision. The students were taken to Westgate Entertainment Center, where they celebrated with pizza, fun games, and bowling for their outstanding work.
