Ohio fire officials are reminding residents to safely store or properly dispose of leftover fireworks now that the Independence Day holiday has ended. Officials say fireworks should only be used on legal discharge dates and warn that improper storage or disposal can lead to injuries, fires and property damage.

Ahead of 4th of July celebrations, the Lima Fire Department is expecting an increase in calls about firework displays gone wrong. 

Following a Fourth of July holiday that saw a significant increase in fireworks-related incidents, the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal reminds Ohioans of the serious risks associated with handling and setting off consumer-grade fireworks.
