Apollo Career Center is celebrating by inviting General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) to speak to the students about the opportunities in manufacturing. Students from the Robotics Technology and Welding programs watched a presentation from a representative from the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center. They learned about the benefits of choosing a career in manufacturing, and what it’s like to build tanks for the Army.

The grants are complete but the work is ongoing to keep tanks being built in Allen County. A visit by a representative of the Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) with the Department of Defense is taking in what phase one, two, and three has done to help with the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center. The OEA disbursed grants of nearly 3-and a half million dollars to Allen County to assist in keeping General Dynamics Land Systems Division and the JSMC viable and off of the base realignment and closure list.

Representatives of General Dynamics Land Systems attending Lima Mayor David Berger's weekly news conference to recruit employees. As a broad spectrum manufacturing facility, the plant has more than 300 open positions for a variety of skill sets including welding, assembly, testing, and engineering fields. Plant management says the need for so many new employees is a change of view in Washington.

General Dynamics Land Systems has been on the lookout for hundreds of new employees for the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center.

GDLS has been running informational sessions with Ohio Means Jobs Allen County to highlight some of the 400 available positions. This comes as the construction of new generation of Abrams tanks is planned for the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center.
