The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry is proud to share the first seedlings at the newly established Buckeye State Tree Nursery in Zanesville are now sprouting.
As progress is being made, H2Ohio is now extending its reach into other parts of the state. A key part of this expansion involves the Ohio Department of Agriculture working directly with farmers to implement water-friendly practices.

March 28, 2024 Press Release from the Office of Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) announced today more than 1.8 million acres are now enrolled into H2Ohio, a comprehensive water quality plan designed to address complex issues affecting Lake Erie. The results of the most recent signup period show a 32 percent increase in enrolled acres when compared to previous sign ups.
The Baughman Ditch project was first petitioned in 1996 due to concerns of flooding and standing water in the area of Bluelick Road and West Street. Due to cost and other issues, it didn’t move forward until now. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources H-2 Ohio is providing funding for wetland retention areas to be built to enhance the county’s tile project. Commissioners and the county engineer’s office have worked out a plan to get things moving.
The State of Ohio will be making funding available to farmers in our area through their H2Ohio program. As first proposed by governor Mike DeWine, H2Ohio is a plan put together to help improve water quality in the state while working with farmers to use new farming practices designed to reduce nutrient runoff from agriculture, like soil testing and conservation crop rotation.
