The governor toured the lake by boat, along with area lawmakers, including Senate President Matt Huffman, and State Representative Jon Cross. They checked out the weed harvesters, which are being used to try and trim back the aquatic weeds, that have already grown thick and widespread this season. The weeds can wrap around propellers and boat drive units, shutting them down. Boaters are often forced to have to back up to try and clear the vegetation, or even remove it by hand. The governor said the state is looking for a long-term solution.
State officials, lawmakers, and local leaders taking time out to talk with chamber members on various topics, but especially the weeds that made boating and other recreation at the lake difficult this past summer. The Chief of the ODNR Division of Parks and Watercraft; Glen Cobb, says the state is aware of the problem and will expand the use of weed harvesters and other measures to remove the vegetation. He said he feels they have a very good game plan going into this year, and they plan on having 3 weed harvesters, plus additional manpower, working on the lake this summer.
