“It’s actually a lot safer because we had potholes in the other lot that were becoming a significant problem, and it makes it easier for staff, volunteers, customers to wheel items out and load them,” said Benji Bergstrand, ReStore manager. “It’s just safer, more efficient, more attractive all around — a good thing.”
Raising questions and getting people to think is the focus of a series of talks that went on Saturday morning at Ohio State Lima. This is the second year for the TEDxFaurot Park talks. This year’s theme was humanity and they had speakers from different parts of the country who spoke on a variety of topics, like connecting with loved ones who are dealing with drug addiction, creating peace during conflict, and how to understand a child who identifies as the opposite sex that they were born as. The whole point of TED and TEDx talks are to bring out ideas worth spreading, and organizers want to make sure they find the right speaker to convey a thought-provoking message.
Organizers say it's unlike anything else in the Lima region. It's an opportunity to share ideas that follow strict guidelines of no political, religious, or corporate agendas, and each speaker is fact-checked. The theme of humanity can encompass many topics and eight speakers will be presenting one that is near to them.
They are now looking for presenters to share ideas worth spreading. The goal is to foster learning, inspiration, and conversations, among others. Last year’s theme was community and the group came up with this year’s theme by suggestions from last year.
