DELPHOS, OH (WLIO) - Passionate, caring and a true leader are three things that come to mind when describing one Mandy Weimerskirch.
Helping out her community was the goal for Jefferson Award winner Taylor Paul as she took on a few projects for St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. When having to choose what she was going to do for her Girl Scouts Gold Award, New Bremen High School senior Taylor Paul decided to turn to St. Paul United Church of Christ to see if they needed any help. They gave her a few suggestions and Taylor chose to take on a few projects for the church.
The Spencerville Ambulance Service hasn’t known a time that Barbara Coil wasn’t volunteering there. Since its inception 46 years ago, you can find Coil doing just about any job there is, in this volunteer organization. "I guess I’ve always helped people," Coil said. "That’s what I wanted to do when I got out of school was be a nurse and so this just fit in to my lifestyle, I guess." Coil has held every office in the ambulance service. Most recently she has been the treasurer for the last 23 years. But that’s not stopping her from serving in the field. You can find Coil going out on calls as she is an advanced EMT.
It is in the Boy Scout motto to do your best, for God and country, and Jefferson Award winner Melvin Parsons has been living up to those words all of his life. Melvin Parsons has a lifelong devotion to serve the children in the Spencerville community, through various activities in Spencerville Schools, the American Legion Post 191, and his church. But over the 50 plus years, he has been with the Boy Scouts and Parsons has always embodied their oath to "Help Other People". Parsons always enjoys the time he volunteers to help children, no matter what area it is in.
Beasley has been a volunteer for decades, but with the help of her store, she can do a bit more.
A husband and wife team have spent years opening up new opportunities to people with disabilities.
"I believe that we all have talents and we all have gifts," said Zwez. "I think if you’re going to live in a community you’re under a certain obligation to share those, however you can. There are a lot of things I can do and there are a lot of things that I can’t do. The things that I can do I’m happy to share."
