Money raised during the July campaign will go directly toward helping sustain the Salvation Army’s year-round operations in Lima.
Christmas is creeping up on us, and the local "Toys for Tots" campaign is feeling the pinch. The tables are a little bare at the Lima Salvation Army as they are starting to sort through the requests they have this year for assistance. They have 452 families signed up, which will have more than a thousand kids hoping for something under the tree this Christmas. Tomorrow, December 7th, is a great chance for people to help catch them up on gifts with the Your Hometown Stations' "Truckload of Toys."
He was one of the biggest and often behind-the-scenes supporters of Lima-Allen County and the region. Kewpee Hamburgers owner and president, Harry Shutt, has died. Shutt began working at Kewpee in 1957 and purchased it from the 'Stub' Wilson estate in 1980, which included the downtown Lima location and Allentown Road, with the eastside location opening in 1981.
We want to thank everyone that stopped by the Allentown Rd. Wal-mart and donated to Truckload of Toys. Because of your donations, we collected hundreds of toys that are going to help the Salvation Army give some area kids a better Christmas. But if you would like to still donate to the Toys for Tots campaign, the drop off boxes around the area will be picked up the week of December 12th. Last year, the Salvation Army gave presents to 1500 children and with every ones help we can make sure everyone has presents under the tree this year. So, thanks again to Wal-mart and Kewpee Hamburgers for the coupons to help make our day a success.
Five new inductees were added to the Agriculture Hall of Fame Thursday night for their outstanding contributions to farming and their work in helping others in the ag community. The 2021 class includes Gene McCluer, Clyde Ditto, Kewpee Hamburgers and Jay Begg and Gerald Brooks posthumously. The Allen County Ag hall of fame was started in 2013 by the Lima Allen County Chamber of Commerce and has 29 inductees. Last year, they were joined by Nutrien to honor those unsung heroes who feed America.
A favorite Lima restaurant is getting recognized as one of the best in the United States to fill people up quick. TripAdvisor released their 2019 travelers awards, and for the category of best fast casual restaurants, Kewpee Hamburgers came in at number 10 nationwide. Kewpee joins a pretty elite crowd on the list, including the In-N-Out Burger in Los Angeles, Five Guys in New York, and the Earl of Sandwich in Orlando, Florida.
