The Airport Authority Board, through resolution of the county commissioners, is applying for a 2.1-million-dollar grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to make needed repairs and upgrades. The money will go to seal coat both the runway and taxiway, rehabilitate the apron pavement surface, and upgrade to LED lights on the runway and taxiway. Air Traffic is picking up and all the changes improve safety and make a good impression with those flying into the airport.
The U.S. Department of Transportation announcing over $273 million dollars in grants to 184 airports across the nation. Locally Lima Allen County Airport receiving just under $300 thousand dollars. Bluffton, Van Wert, and Bellefontaine airports also receiving dollars for infrastructure projects. The U.S. Transportation secretary states this investment in our nation's airports will strengthen safety, improve travel, generate jobs, and benefit local communities.
President Trump will be stepping off of Air Force One to begin his stop in Lima to visit the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, and preparing for a presidential landing is something that should not be taken lightly, but officials at the Allen County Airport say that they are ready for Air Force One.
