LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Some Lima City School students got their hands a little dirty on Friday, all for the love of science.

The West Ohio Community Action Partnership (WOCAP) is once again working to help families prevent lead poisoning from happening to them. As part of their Lead Safe Program, they can provide services to homeowners or renters to get rid of lead in their homes. It's financed through a federal grant from the Ohio Department of Health. Lead comes from a variety of sources, but a big one is paint found in homes built before 1978. If you feel you may have lead-based paint in your home, contact WOCAP to start the process.

ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County Engineer's Office is announcing that Bowman Road in Perry Township will be maintained on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 7:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. for asphalt paving. Delays may be possible during maintenance.

People from all over the region are looking forward to Lima's Star Spangled Spectacular, especially the fireworks show. Crews from Rozzi began setting up Thursday night's show on Wednesday. A little more than 900 shells are packed into the mortars and secured for the 20-minute synchronized show with the Lima Area Concert Band. They will be shot from just south of Safety City to explode over Faurot Park in a dazzling show. Some shells have been imported from several foreign countries to give more variety.
