LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A new partnership between The Ohio State University and Mercy Health-St. Rita's is now in full swing.
Mercy Health-St. Rita's and the Ohio State University Department of Cardiovascular Medicine hosted a Cardiovascular Scholar's Camp for twenty local high school seniors. Throughout the day, future medical students learned about various procedures and what life is like during and after medical school.

The Mercer Health Medical Staff Scholarship Committee will award $2,000 to a medical school student who has shown a strong connection to Mercer Health or the surrounding communities. The scholarship will be awarded for a one-year period and provided directly to the student. Applicants may submit each year of medical school and previous recipients are also eligible to apply.
Starting back in 2017, St. Rita's offered scholarships to graduating high school seniors who had the intent on going to school to work in the medical field. Gage Goecke of Spencerville was awarded the scholarship and will be the first recipient to move on to medical school in the fall. He says he's excited about the opportunity and hopes to make it back to the hospital for his residency in the future.
