A Lima man is in custody in Mercer County, after a Thanksgiving Day incident near the village of Mendon. According to Mercer County Sheriff, 41-year-old Dwight Bonapart is facing a felony vandalism charge after the incident in the 1200 block of Dutton Road.
The Mercer County Sheriff says the county is making progress on their drug problem, but there is still a lot of work to be done to stay on top of it. Jeff Grey released the drug arrest statistics for 2022. The sheriff's deputies served drug related indictments to 74 different people, who faced a total of 210 felony drug violations. The majority of the drug offenses involved meth, but Grey says that fentanyl and heroin were found frequently. Of the people indicted, 54 were men and 20 were women. Grey says the 3 pronged approach of enforcement, treatment, and education seems to be making an impact on the county's drug problem.
A teen is seriously hurt in a Utility Terrain Vehicle crash in Mercer County Saturday night. 17-year-old Jacob Dahlinghaus of Tipp City was found in a corn field near the intersection of Huwer and Homan Roads around 7:30 p.m. He was taken to the Miami Valley Hospital by helicopter with serious injuries. According to Mercer County deputies, family members were concerned when Dahlinghaus didn't return from taking the UTV out for a ride and called the sheriff's office. While responding to that call, another call came in about an injury accident where the driver was ejected from a UTVand was lying in a field. The incident remains under investigation.
A motorcyclist was killed after his bike drove off a curve in rural Mercer County. 22-year-old Austin Bussell of Maineville, Ohio died from injuries he sustained in a crash that happened on SR 119 near the Indiana state line just before 2:30 pm on Saturday. According to deputies, Bussell was heading east when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and ran off the south side of the roadway. He was transported to Mercer Health in Coldwater, where he was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation.
