The City of St. Marys will soon see another huge addition to the list of changes being made to its downtown. A new administration building is in the works to be constructed. This will then allow the current one on Spring Street to be torn down. Three blighted buildings down the street were purchased by the city to be demolished. They will be replaced with the new newly designed administration building. The Mayor of St. Marys, Pat McGowan says flooding is the biggest issue in the current space, on top of many others.
The old flour mill that sits on the canal on E. High St. is one of the first built, and one of the last remaining mills on the canal. The renovated building will be used to educate future generations of Ohioans about the importance of transportation and industry in our states prosperity.
News changes are coming to St. Marys in 2020. One of which will be the largest capital improvement project in the city's history.
One of those big changes is the new water treatment plant. The city broke ground for the project last year. It's being built between county road 66 and Koop Road. That's down the road from the old one. The estimated cost for this project is around 20 million dollars. The new project is 35 to 65 days behind, but it's expected to be finished by late May or June.
