“We really chose the Lima Citizens Police Academy to really strengthen the relationship between our local law enforcement and our community,” said Samuel White Jr., project team lead for the class. “I believe there's a lot of negative perception around our police department, and so we really want to build that trust, that transparency with our police department with this academy.”
The Patrol’s ride-along program is an immersive experience that offers potential recruits a firsthand look into the daily duties and responsibilities of our troopers.
For the second year in a row, Wright State Lake Police Cadets trained at the Midwest Shooting Center. But this year they've switched it up a bit. Police cadets trained with the K-9s from the New Bremen K-9 unit. They worked on several training techniques with the arm sleeve. They also worked on obedience training and other k-9 training. During the rest of the training, the cadets went through arrest scenarios. The academy is happy to partner up with the New Bremen K-9 unit because it better prepares the students.
Police officers often face situations that require quick actions and split-second decisions.
According to an article in "The Police Chief" law enforcement recruitment numbers are on the decline.
The Lima Police Department held their training day for two patrol officers and two school resource officers, who had to walk into scenarios with no idea what to expect - in order to stimulate real life situations.
