LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Allen Lima Leadership Class of 2024-25 has unveiled its class project: the creation of the first-ever Lima Citizens Police Academy, launching this October.
The academy is designed to foster stronger connections between the Lima Police Department and the community it serves. Organizers hope the program will help reduce negative perceptions surrounding law enforcement while promoting transparency and trust.
“We really chose the Lima Citizens Police Academy to really strengthen the relationship between our local law enforcement and our community,” said Samuel White Jr., project team lead for the class. “I believe there's a lot of negative perception around our police department, and so we really want to build that trust, that transparency with our police department with this academy.”
The inaugural academy kicks off on October 2 and will run for seven weeks. Those interested in learning more can visit the City of Lima’s booth at National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, at Lincoln Park.
