This St. Patrick's Day hundreds of people from across the country displayed their Irish pride while participating in a local event that raises money to support veterans.

“A lot of people from the town come get together and I get to see a lot of people that, especially in college I didn’t get to see throughout the year,” said Aaren Hemmelgarn, the St. Patrick’s Day 5k 2nd place winner. “It’s just a really, really fun race to come back and just participate in and have a good time.”

Despite the winter weather, Lima councilman kept his tradition of honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. the day before the day in his honor.

The snow storm kept more than a few away, but 6th ward Councilman Derry Glenn  chose not to reschedule his annual dinner.

Only one of the seven award recipients were able to attend. Melinda Simpson was given the Rosa Parks award for her work wit the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice as well as getting citizens registered to vote.

Glenn has been hosting the dinner for over 30 years now, and says he did not want to cancel it this year because honoring the civil rights leader was too important to him.
