Community leaders gathered in Lima this afternoon to recognize those who go above and beyond to keep Allen County safe.
“Our assignment was we need to check our smoke detector, so we can see if it works in case we have a fire, and you always need a door,” said Alanna Watkins, one of the program participants. “You don't want to live in a basement or attic if you don't have a door. And you have to have a plan, so when you have a sleepover with your friends, you have to tell them where to meet up if you have a fire.”
The middle age group of students at the Rhodesology summer camp earlier this month had a variety of experiences to check out.
A working smoke alarm can be the difference between life and death when a home fire strikes. That from the American Red Cross as they prepare to canvas in the Lima area this Saturday to promote fire safety and their annual "Sound the Alarm" event. They will be in the area of the Chapter House on Collett Street, placing door hangers to inform residents that volunteers will be out Saturday, May 18th, to install smoke alarms and how to sign up for one. You will get some fire safety education information as well.
