LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The middle age group of students at the Rhodesology summer camp earlier this month had a variety of experiences to check out. From e-sports to Battlebots and music creation, the 5th through 7th graders could explore many aspects of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math.

One group was participating in the Do It Yourself Bootcamp, where they were able to work hands-on with tools and crafts.

"I hope that they're a little bit more confident in just diving in and trying new things and tackling projects," said Chelsea Junkins, an instructor for Rhodesology. "I hope they know safety things, like if we are making soap at home, lye is corrosive, so we're going to take the right safety precautions and measures to be careful with it, and that when working with hammers and nails, we've got to be super careful and know what our surfaces are - just to work safe and to not be afraid to tackle and try new things."

These students were able to create homemade soap and candles, as well as a yard Yahtzee game and tic-tac-toe boards that they can take home with them.

For the students, this camp was just an extension of what they like to do at home, and working with their hands rather than spending all their time on technology.

"I love crafting; I always make pictures at my house, I always paint, I just love crafting," said Elsa Mains, a 5th grader. "You can do so much more than just staring at a screen."

"It unplugs your brain," said Wyatt MacDonald, a 6th grader. "You kind of get back into that school mode - 'I gotta work' - instead of sitting in front of that screen on the couch."

Other activities for this age group included the Color Your World art camp and video creative storytelling.
