SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, ALLEN COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) - An Allen County woman is being hailed as a hero for her actions in saving a Shawnee Township couple from a house fire last Friday morning.
At Monday night’s trustees meeting, Shawnee Township resident Kylee Morrisey was presented with the Lifesaver Award by Shawnee Fire Chief Austin Miller.Â
In the early morning hours Friday, Morrisey was driving to work along Yoakam Road when she noticed a garage fully engulfed in flames. Morrisey, a full-time paramedic, immediately sprang into action, waking and alerting the sleeping couple inside the home. Her quick response ultimately saved their lives.
"I stumbled across a car stopped in the middle of Yoakam Road and questioned 'what's going on?' I just so happened to look over, see flames shooting out of the residence, so it was just, you know, natural reaction of what I do, stopped and called 911 and made a heck of an effort to make sure everyone get out of the house and everyone was safe as can be. It's kind of a natural instinct, as I tell everyone that comes into this career. I've been doing it long enough. It just kicks in, and you just go and you react, and at the end of the day, all you care about is making sure everyone gets out alive and safe," says Kylee Morrisey who saved a couple from an early morning house fire on February 6th.
Shawnee Fire Prevention Officer Matt Reaman came up with the idea to recognize Morrisey with the Lifesaver Award.
