CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Grand Lake Mariners used three home runs to even their GLSCL series with the Flag City Sluggers, holding on for a 5-4 victory Saturday night at Montgomery Field.
After dropping the series opener in sudden death on Friday, the Mariners wasted little time getting on the board.
Brandt Kendall gave Grand Lake an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, launching a solo home run over the right-center field fence.
The Mariners added to their advantage in the second. Sean Krueckeberg connected on an opposite-field solo shot to make it 2-0 before Noah Drake followed with another home run over the right-field wall, extending the lead to 3-0.
Flag City's Keagan Baugh recorded a strikeout to begin the game, but Grand Lake's offense proved difficult to slow down as the Mariners built an early cushion.
The Sluggers battled back throughout the night, including a single from Alex Grissinger, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Grand Lake held off Flag City for a 5-4 win, evening the series at one game apiece. The two teams will meet in the rubber match Sunday in Findlay.
