LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - It has been three decades since the brutal killing of a Lima corrections case worker, and a former colleague is asking people to join him in honoring her life.

Bonita Haynes was killed on August 6th, 1996 while at work at the now closed Lima Correctional Institution. Inmates Robert Lonberger and John Daniels were convicted for her murder. Lima councilman Derry Glenn worked with Haynes and is asking residents to turn on their porch light Thursday evening to remember the life of Bonita Haynes.

"We ask everyone to turn their lights on, the porch light on, to show the light that Miss Haynes had in her life," Glenn said. "She was a special person in our community and she did a lot of good things in our community, so we ask everyone to turn their porch light on."

A ceremony is being held Thursday at the Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution Memorial Garden to mark the 30th anniversary of Haynes' death.
