AUGLAIZE COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) — A construction flagger was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic in a work zone on U.S. 33 in Auglaize County.
Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Wapakoneta Post said Troy Ray, 58, of Clyde, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, Ray was directing traffic in the eastbound lane of a construction zone on U.S. 33, just east of State Route 65 near St. Johns, when he was struck by an eastbound Jeep.
The vehicle was driven by Tyler Joseph, 35, of West Liberty.
Troopers said Joseph was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.

Wapakoneta - The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on August 5,2026, at approximately 3:34 p.m.in Clay Township, Auglaize County, Ohio. The crash occurred on US Route 33 just east of State Route 65 south.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Tyler Joseph, age 35, of West Liberty, Ohio, was traveling eastbound on US Route 33 and struck Troy Ray, age 58, of Clyde Ohio, who was in the eastbound lane working as a flagger in a construction zone.
Ray sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was transported to Eley Funerial Home in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Joseph was wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries
The Wapakoneta Post was assisted on scene by tlre Auglaize County Slreriff's Office, Auglaize County CERT, Ohio Department of Transportation, St. Johns Fire and EMS, Auglaize County Coroner's Office, and Tops Towing.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
Next of kin notification has been made.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) - A flagger is dead after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic on U.S. Route 33 East outside of Wapakoneta.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the flagger was working in the eastbound lanes when they were hit by a black Jeep traveling east. The victim's identity has not been released. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
