FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) - A federally-funded inter-city bus service is expanding its reach in Northwest Ohio.

GoBus has been serving Findlay since March, giving residents in West Central Ohio another option for travel across the state. The service connects Findlay with major cities, including Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo, six times a day, seven days a week.

The federally-funded bus system is designed to connect rural and mid-sized towns with destinations across Ohio. Transportation officials say their goal is to provide safe, reliable and affordable public transportation for everyone.

The federally-funded bus system is designed to connect rural and mid-sized towns with destinations across Ohio.

"Our objective is to be as affordable as possible for everyone," said Scott Fisher, outreach coordinator for GoBus. "Our fares start at a base rate of $5 plus fees and taxes to get over to the next stop one way. Most trips wouldn't be more than $20 or $25. The highest fee would be $40 to get from one end of the state all the way to the other."

Because the stop is located at the University of Findlay, leaders say it also gives students another option to travel to and from campus.

"The University of Findlay draws students from across the state and really from around the world, and this is another opportunity for them to gain affordable access from lots of different airports," said University of Findlay president Richard Ludwick. "It connects to many of the major airports in the state and brings people right to campus."

"I'm friends with a lot of people who are international students, and one of their biggest things is they love to explore what Ohio has to offer and just be able to experience more," said Bailee Romanowski, VP of student government at the University of Findlay. "I think that gives them a really big opportunity to just explore the world a little bit more and just see more of what Ohio and America has to offer them."

GoBus currently services Delphos, Findlay, Kenton, Lima and Van Wert locally.
