The Allen County Land Bank is moving forward with a multi-structure demolition project, despite winter weather, aimed at improving some of the county’s most visible properties.

Two people have died, and two others are injured following a three-vehicle crash on the Allen and Hardin County line. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Findlay Post, just after 4:30 PM Tuesday, an SUV driven by 84-year old Nancy Weese of Columbus was headed southbound on Hardin road, failed to stop at the stop sign, and was struck by a Jeep traveling westbound on State Route 81. The Jeep, driven by 32-year old Samantha Hilton of Dunkirk, struck the SUV on the driver's side, and it was hit again by a truck heading eastbound on 81, driven by 43-year old Jeffrey Barnes of Ada.
The Allen County Engineer's Office is announcing that Kemp Road, between State Route 81 and Poling Road, will be closing for tile replacement. The closure will begin on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to remain closed until Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. There will be no access during this closure.
The Allen County Engineer's Office is announcing that road crews will be paving Roush Road, between State Route 81 and Reservoir Road, on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Traffic will be maintained, but delays are expected.
Preliminary work continues to put in a roundabout at the busy intersection of State Route 81 and Thayer Road. The project is currently in the design phase, and that is expected to wrap up this winter, with construction starting in the fall of next year. The intersection has been a safety concern with traffic from the Procter & Gamble warehouses and a second plant under construction off of Thayer. Plus, GPS units are sending truck traffic down Thayer Road to avoid driving through downtown Lima.
An Elida man received minor injuries after the semi he was driving rolled on its side after going in the ditch. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that 46-year-old William Benfield was driving east on State Route 81 when he got off the right side of the road around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The semi continued into the ditch and rolled over on its side. Benfield was taken to St. Rita's to be checked out and will be cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle. Allen County EMA was called out, but since it was water in the tanker, there was no hazmat situation.
A delivery truck driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution after he hit two semis parked on an I-75 off-ramp. The accident happened just before 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 38-year-old Darrell Daniels of Toledo was coming off the southbound lane to State Route 81 when he side-swiped one semi parked on the side of the off-ramp and ran straight into the back of another.
