The Johnny Appleseed Park District officially opened the Beil’s Buck Run Nature Area, a 50-acre preserve featuring more than a mile of hiking trails through woods, meadows and waterways. Donated by Herbert and Elfrieda Beil, the property is now the district’s 18th public nature trail destination and is open to hikers from dawn to dusk.
Multiple fire departments battled a second-alarm fire and cold temperatures in rural Allen County this afternoon. Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, Spencerville firefighters responded to 2929 South Sunderland Road for reports of a residential fire. Upon arrival, fire was coming out of the walls and attic with smoke pouring out from the roof. A husband and wife were home at the time of the fire.
