The City of Lima wants motorists to take note of a traffic change for tomorrow. The traffic light at the intersection of Elm Street and Jameson will be worked on, and the intersection will become a four-way stop. With a partial lane closure. If you can find an alternate route for Thursday, it may be a good idea. The work is expected to take about 8 hours.

December 5, 2024, Press Release from the the Ohio State Highway Patrol: LIMA – As friends and families gather across Ohio this holiday season, the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be highly visible on the state’s roadways. As always, the Patrol is committed to removing dangerous and impaired drivers, keeping Ohioans and our visitors safe. “There is never an excuse for driving impaired,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “I encourage everyone to drive responsibly every day; troopers will have no tolerance for those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.” Since 2019, there have been 72,130 impaired driving-related crashes, resulting in the deaths of 3,920 people. This accounts for 54% of all fatal crashes on Ohio roadways. Additionally, during the same time period, nearly 44,000 others were injured in OVI-related crashes. Alcohol and/or drugs played a role in 53% of fatal crashes in the state. Of the 3,587 OVI-related fatal crashes since 2019, 28% were alcohol-related, 40% were drug-related and 32% were a combination of alcohol and drugs.

 The night before Thanksgiving is the top drinking night of the year and law enforcement is urging those who drink to find a safe way home. The Ohio State Highway Patrol along with local law enforcement will be out patroling over the Thanksgiving weekend for driving violations and drivers under the influence.

If you have points on your license because of speeding, you are not alone. According to the insurance shopping website Insurify, Ohio is the 3rd highest state for drivers getting speeding tickets, behind North Dakota and Wisconsin. Their study says that 7.8% of Ohio drivers have a speeding ticket on their record, which is above the national average of 4.1%.

July 8, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 16 people lost their lives in 15 traffic crashes during the July Fourth reporting period, which began Wednesday, July 3 at midnight and ended Sunday, July 7 at 11:59 p.m. In nine of the fatalities in which safety belts were available, seven were unbelted (78%). Ohio’s safety belt law remains a secondary violation; however, troopers continued to have zero tolerance during the holiday reporting period when motorists were stopped for other violations and were found not wearing their safety belt. Throughout the holiday reporting period, troopers issued nearly 3,000 safety belt and child safety seat citations.

June 27, 2024, Press Release from the the Wood County Sheriff's Office: Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn announced today that the Wood County Sheriff's Office will be conducting increased patrol from Thursday, July 4, 2024, through Sunday, July 7, 2024, thanks to grant funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. Deputies will pay particular attention for violations, such as driving under the influence, failure to yield, and speeding; all of which are leading factors in fatal crashes. There will be zero tolerance for driving under the influence and seat belt violations.

June 7, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: COLUMBUS - The time period from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend is referred to as the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to buckle up, drive focused, and be sober. During this period last year, 67,305 crashes occurred on Ohio’s roadways, a 3% drop from 2022. Of those, 371 were fatal crashes that killed 397 people, which was five less than the year prior. Even though the 100 deadliest days only represent 27 percent of the calendar year, in the last five years, they have accounted for more than one-third of all fatal traffic crashes.

June 7, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Defiance Post: DEFIANCE – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Bryan Police Department and the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, announced today, that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM tonight on North Main Street in Bryan, Ohio, in Williams County. The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
