The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife restocks 85,000 trout in public lakes and ponds across the state each year. The fish, which measure between 10 and 13 inches in length, are raised in Ohio hatcheries for about a year before being released.
The Division of Wildlife added 600 trout to the water, each around 10 to 12 inches long. The division of wildlife brings in fish once a year to Schoonover from the fish hatcheries to help restock the lake, and the fishermen were ready to catch their limit.
It's one sign that spring is here as dozens of anglers surrounded Schoonover Lake. It was trout release day and the lines were dropping in the water almost as fast as the fish did. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources delivered 1,000 trout Thursday morning. The day has become a tradition to many in the region and they look forward to getting their catch for the day and the start of the fishing season.
With the warmer weather, many fishermen are looking to get out to local fishing hot spots. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be making their annual stop at Schoonover Lake next week. On Thursday, April 11th they will be stocking the lake with hundreds of trout. Dozens of people turn out for the dump and Lima Parks and Recreation wants to remind you about a few guidelines.
