November 13, 2024, Press Release from the Wood County Sheriff's Office: At 6:02 AM, the Wood County Sheriff's Office investigated a fatal crash on S. Dixie Highway north of Cygnet Road. 23-year-old Dishawn Arnett of Fostoria was driving north on Dixie Highway in a GMC pickup when a southbound Chevrolet pickup, driven by 58-year-old Kurt Mazey of Weston, went left of center and struck him head-on.
October 18, 2024, Press Release from the Wood County Sheriff's Office: Mark Wasylyshyn, Sheriff, is reminding all drivers that November is the month with the highest number of vehicle /deer crashes in Wood County. October and December being the next two highest months. If your vehicle strikes a deer, do not touch the animal. A frightened and wounded deer can hurt you. The best procedure, if possible, is to get your vehicle off the road and call 9-1-1. Contact your insurance agent or company representative to report any damage to your car. Collision with an animal is covered under the comprehensive portion of your auto insurance policy and does not go against your driving record.
May 1, 2024, News Release from the Wood County Sheriff's Office: On May 1, 2024, at 8:27 p.m., the Wood County Sheriff's Office was notified of a single-vehicle crash at Mears Rd. and Main St. in the Village of Jerry City, which resulted in a single fatality. The crash involved a white 2016 Chevrolet pickup operated by 61-year-old John Wansitler of Jerry City.
The bus, owned by the transport company Riverview Industries, was operated by 51-year-old Phaedra Knepper. The bus was northbound on Caskie Road approaching Kemner Road when it went off-road to the left, overturned, and landed right-side up, straddling the adjacent ditch. There were four passengers on board at the time of the crash; only minor injuries are suspected.
A kidnap victim was rescued during a traffic stop in Wood County on Wednesday. According to the Wood County Sherriff’s Office, deputies stopped 27-year-old Langston Campbell of Cincinnati of for a traffic violation.
After 5 1/2 hours of negotiating, a man barricading himself with a gun in Hancock County is taken into custody. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office says at 1:30 p.m. Friday, deputies tried to serve an order of detention out of Hancock County Probate Court, on 29-year-old Andrew Huffman at 319 East Liberty Street in Arlington. Deputies got to the home and Huffman barricaded himself inside with a weapon.
