LIMA, OH (WLIO) - After a summer of uncertainty, a huge swarm of bookworms lined up and dashed through the aisles as the AAUW Book Fair kicked off Tuesday!
The book fair is a Lima staple, and organizers are happy to bring it back another year especially after worrying if a location was available.
Residents and travelers perused thousands of books ranging from children's books to large novels of non-fiction, romance, and many more genres. There were also games, DVDs, and even sheet music. The book sale is important to the community as money raised will go toward college scholarships for area girls, a tradition since 1957. This year, AAUW presented 14 scholarships of $1,500 each. The book fair is a Lima staple, and organizers are happy to bring it back another year, especially after worrying if a location was available.
The book fair is located at 2151 and 2161 Elida Road in Lima.
"It was a little shaky. We usually to try to start the beginning of June, and we didn't get started until the beginning of July because of trying to find a building. This year, we are kind of split between two ends of the buildings, so it's not as ideal as we would like to have, but it is working out fine. The community was very helpful when we found out that we may not have this book sale. It was amazing how many people stepped forward and try to help us find something," says Sue Ann Shaw, Co-Chair of the AAUW Book Fair.
The AAUW Book Fair will continue each day through Saturday, September 7th. Wednesday through Friday will be open from 10 AM until 8 PM, with Saturday open from 10 AM until 2 PM. Thursday is half-price day, and on Friday and Saturday, you will be able to purchase a box for $5 and a bag for $3. The rest of the week is free to get in. From noon until 2 PM on Saturday only, community organizations can shop for books for free, but you must provide identification for your organization. The book fair is located at 2151 and 2161 Elida Road in Lima.
