LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Allen County Museum is taking visitors back in time.

As visitors stepped into the museum on Friday, it was all about life in America in the 1930s. There were a number of different exhibits to see and learn about, highlighting both national history and Allen County history.

From the John Dillinger exhibit about the notorious gangster and bank robber, to sports history like the Cincinnati Reds hosting the first night game in MLB history, and the historic Southern Ohio basketball team, the Waterloo Wonders. For museum officials, it's important to keep history alive and educate people of all ages, especially when some of it was right here in our area over 90 years ago.

"It's really interesting when you read the newspapers, because obviously it was a tough time for a lot of people, and yet there were wonderful opportunities too, especially for the children - the parks department, there were all kinds of activities, not just for the children, but for adults too," said Sarah Rish, curator of education for the Allen County Museum. "And of course, there were some nefarious activities at the time. If you come, you'll see John Dillinger, who spent some time in our jail here before his gang members helped break him out."

The Life in America 1930s event at the museum will continue on Saturday at the Allen County Museum from 1 PM to 4 PM and is free and open to the public with games like bingo and 1930s-themed musicians.
