LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Why not take your family on a safari this weekend—right in downtown Lima?

It’s a “Symphonic Safari” on Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center, performed by the Lima Symphony Orchestra and students from The Arts Center School of Music and Dance.

The life-size puppets featured in the performance were created by Roger Titley and have appeared at major events, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the 2016 Olympic opening ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, and the Cleveland Public Library. Chad Hughes, manager of 19 Hawthorne, purchased the puppets from the library and is providing them for Sunday’s family concert.

Local dancers will act as the puppets’ “hosts,” bringing them to life on stage. One dancer says she is enjoying the experience.

"There's so many cool aspects that come to this. It's it's understanding how the puppet moves and then how to react with the ostrich. And you know, the certain forms that the ostrich makes when it's happy, when confused, mad, that I have to figure out how to move it to make the show come to life," said Alexa Noonan, the ostrich puppeteer.

You can embark on the “Symphonic Safari” this Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available online at limasymphony.com or at the Civic Center box office.
