LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Lima city crews are still working to address the remnants of the weekend’s winter weather.

While main roads are clear and dry, many secondary streets remain covered with snow and ice. Crews were out early spreading a special mixture designed to break up the remaining snow and ice on the roads. They are hoping sunny weather will aid in the clearing process.

“The more traffic travels on the side streets, the more the packed snow will break up,” said Street Maintenance Supervisor Eric Beebe.

“With the temperatures where they are, we have to add an additive in calcium chloride, which will help our salt work,” Beebe explained. “Salt will only work until 20 degrees. Anything under 20, that’s when we usually throw calcium on. That’ll help speed up the process, especially today with the sun being out—that helps a lot.”

Beebe also asked residents to dig out any catch basins near their homes to allow melted snow and ice to drain properly, preventing pooling and refreezing.
