The Ohio Department of Transportation says to let it snow because their fleet is ready for any of the white stuff that comes our way. ODOT District One has been conducting 150-point inspections on 118 trucks they use to keep the highways snow and ice-free in the 8 counties they serve. The plows and salt dispensers are checked to make sure they are ready to go when the snowflakes start to fall. The district also has over 45 thousand tons of salt on hand to spread and 240 thousand gallons of deicer to use before a winter storm hits.

Spring is just around the corner, and following a winter with winter storms, cars start to buildup salt, which could lead to rust on the undercarriage of cars, and potentially shortening the life of car parts. With winter weather expected to return this week, the Allen County Soil and Water Conservation District wants to remind people to take it easy on the salt to clear the ice. Freshwater aquatic life and plants don't like the salt, so they avoid it making to the storm sewer and then the river, you are asked to follow a few tips. One is to shovel before the snow or sleet can turn to ice, and if you have to spread salt remember a little bit can go a long way.
