LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — An Allen County jury will decide the fate of a Lima man facing charges in connection with a 2023 murder.

Michael Oliphant, 23, is facing charges of felonious assault and murder in the death of Kirk Perine, who was killed on Feb. 15, 2023.

Michael Oliphant, 23, is facing charges of felonious assault and murder in the death of Kirk Perine, who was killed on Feb. 15, 2023.

 

According to Lima police detectives, officers were called to the 100 block of Rosedale Avenue for reports of a shooting. At the scene, they found a crashed car with Perine inside, dead from a gunshot wound. Oliphant was later arrested in another part of Lima.

During opening statements, Allen County prosecutors laid out their case, and talk about what led up to the shooting.  

"He headed on foot down to Allentown road where he shot at Dr. Carl Feltz and his secretary Phillis Locker, who were, at that time, standing out in the parking lot of Feltz Chiropractic, talking about some things that happened during work that day," said Allen County Prosecutor Destiny Caldwell. "He then proceeded on foot and shot Kirk Perine and hit him one time in the neck area, causing his death."

During opening statements, Allen County prosecutors laid out their case, and talk about what led up to the shooting.  

The jury began hearing witness testimony Monday. The trial is scheduled to resume Tuesday.
