LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office welcomed six new deputies Wednesday, marking the largest class of officers sworn in by the department. Friends and family attended the ceremony to pin badges on the new officers.

All six graduates completed training at the Rhodes State Police Academy and are ready to serve the citizens of Allen County.

“I'm incredibly excited for this opportunity. We were given so many wonderful tools, and I can't wait to use them out on the streets to make Allen County a little bit safer. I was born and raised in Putnam County, but I've always wanted to work in Allen County. It's a really great opportunity to get to know so many new people,” said Ivy Parker, a new Allen County deputy.

Sheriff Matt Treglia said having more deputies on patrol is crucial to deterring crime.

“Well that's very important. I mean, go out and patrol out in our communities, it is definitely the biggest deterrent for criminals. When they see a patrol cruiser going through their neighborhood, they see a uniform officer out in their neighborhood, it is the biggest deterrent that you can have above and beyond detectives and undercover work. So patrol is the main thing, and right now we are very, very, very close to being full staff,” said Treglia.

The sheriff noted the department is currently down three positions from full staffing.
